Bigot-poking
Sep. 23rd, 2019 01:14 pmWe are in the mood to do some writing, today. We are also in the mood to poke some bigots in the eye. So with that being said, we are hosting a prompt call. No need to boost if you don't want to, and we work best in flash fiction and poetry, but we are so tired of writer's block that if you, our awesome readers would give us some prompts, we'd be mighty greatful.

Icoography by Cherri
Date: 2019-09-24 03:58 pm (UTC)just one minority's attempt
To create solidarity between the differing factions.
After all, LGBTQIAING? people had the rainbow and why
shouldn't the plurals
have a flag too?
So one flag had been made
and then another
to suit a myriad of experiences
as one flag was not enough
for all the kinds of systems.
None of these flags
was as easily recognized
as the rainbow for the LGBTQ community,
as there was less cultural permission
for being a group of people
who just happened to share one body.
And that wasn't even counting the turf wars
and the special hell of discourse
or syscourse that brewed and bubbled
Just under the surface
because in reality the one community was many,
all trying to exist beneath one umbrella,
often forgetting the fact
to those not in the know, the only knowledge
Of their existence was terrible movies and
even worse documentaries that portrayed them
as tragically broken victims
or attention seekers or worse yet
terribly dangerous and possibly murderers.
But through it all, some iconography spread,
Even if the symbols were different,
flags on twitter avatars,
The multiple code block, meaningless gibberish to anyone without the code key
But still a lot of fun.
Some groups even made things,
Knit scarves and hats, and
Offered their solidarity that way.
And sometimes, you would even find a non-plural
proudly being an ally, using the flags, the colors, the codes
To identify themselves as such
And whenever we see that it
restores a bit of our faith in humanity.
Phew. There you are. I hope this is a suitable fill. —Grin—

Date: 2019-09-24 07:16 pm (UTC)Hey there! The multiple code is an actual thing. If you ever want a link to the decode sheet, feel free to ask. Nobody uses it as iconography, because it's fiddly to mke one for yourselves and takes forever, but it is fun to play with and if you read enough of them you start finding yourself able to parse them a bit. I know you may not be a system, yourself (And if you are i apologize for the assmption) but nobody's gonna mind if I link the code.

PS: The goup who knits multile pride things and does jewelry and the like is also real. If you want a link to their Etsy, let me know. They do all sorts of awesome, geeky things as well. There's something there for everyboey.
